What You Should Know About

Good Samaritan Laws

36 states have civil protection laws in place and 33 states have criminal protection laws to protect bystanders who help overdose victims. This encourages bystanders, who may be consumers themselves, to help rather than avoid calling 911.

  • Never leave a person who is overdosing alone
  • It is important to call for medical help immediately
  • It’s natural to be scared but don’t run away
  • Do CPR, and if you have it, use Narcan
  • Cooperation with first responders is key

Over 150 people die every day in the U.S. from overdoses related to synthetic opioids like fentanyl (CDC).
